Entry Doors Austin
Pella Rookie of the Year 2025 • Austin’s Only Certified RAM Installer
Your front door is the first thing guests notice and the last line of defense between your family and the outside world. A quality entry door handles both jobs — making your home more inviting while keeping it safe, sealed, and energy efficient.
Old Soul Windows & Doors installs entry doors in wood, fiberglass, and steel from brands built to handle the Austin climate.
What Makes a Great Entry Door?
A great entry door does four things well: it keeps your home secure, it insulates against heat and weather, it looks right on the house, and it holds up for decades without constant maintenance. Finding a door that checks every box starts with matching the right material to your home and your priorities.
Security matters. Austin property crime rates, while declining, still make a solid-core door with quality hardware a smart investment. A well-installed entry door with a reinforced frame, multi-point locking system, and heavy-duty hinges is far harder to force open than the builder-grade hollow-core doors found in many Texas tract homes.
Energy efficiency matters too. The Department of Energy estimates that air leakage around doors and windows accounts for a significant portion of residential energy loss. A properly weatherstripped, insulated entry door with an adjustable threshold eliminates the drafts that drive up your cooling bills from May through October.
And then there is curb appeal — the reason most homeowners start thinking about a new front door in the first place.
How Much Does a New Front Door Cost in Austin?
It depends on what you are buying. A slab from a big box store and a front entry done the Old Soul way are two different products, and they are priced like two different products.
When we replace a front door, the job includes the door itself, custom ordered to your opening, a new frame and threshold, sidelights or a transom if the entry calls for them, finish carpentry so the trim looks like it was always there, and paint or stain to match. Most of our clients pair the entry with a patio door or a set of windows so the whole front of the house reads as one update.
Projects like this generally land between $10,000 and $25,000, and larger homes go past that. Every estimate is itemized, so you see what the door, the frame, the glass and the labor each cost. No pressure, no sign-today price. Not sure which material fits your home? We bring samples to the consultation so you can see and feel the difference.
Entry Door Materials — Wood, Fiberglass & Steel
Steel doors are the practical workhorse. A foam-core steel door provides the highest insulation value per dollar and the strongest resistance to forced entry. Modern steel entry doors come in panel designs and finishes that look far better than the flat, industrial steel doors of previous decades. The tradeoff: steel can dent on impact and may show wear at the finish level in direct Austin sun over time.
Fiberglass doors are the all-around performer. They resist denting, cracking, warping, and rotting. High-end fiberglass doors feature wood-grain textures so realistic that most people cannot tell the difference from the sidewalk. Fiberglass holds paint and stain exceptionally well and does not expand or contract with Austin’s temperature swings. For most homeowners, fiberglass offers the best combination of beauty and durability.
Wood doors are the premium choice. Solid mahogany, knotty alder, and white oak entry doors have a depth, warmth, and character that no synthetic material can fully replicate. Wood is the right choice for custom homes, historic properties, and homeowners who value craftsmanship and are willing to refinish the door every few years to keep it looking its best.

How Does a New Front Door Improve Curb Appeal?
A front door replacement is one of the highest-ROI home improvements you can make. The 2024 Remodeling Magazine Cost vs. Value report found that a new steel entry door recoups approximately 188 percent of its cost at resale — making it the single highest-return exterior project on the list.
Curb appeal is not just about resale though. It is about how your home feels every time you pull into the driveway. A weathered, faded, or outdated front door drags down the entire facade, no matter how well-maintained the rest of the exterior is.
Design elements that make the biggest visual impact:
- Glass inserts — decorative, frosted, or clear glass panels add light to entryways and break up solid panel designs.
- Sidelights — full or half-length glass panels flanking the door create a wider, more welcoming entrance.
- Transoms — glass panels above the door add height and natural light, especially effective on homes with tall entryway ceilings.
- Hardware upgrades — matte black, brushed nickel, and oil-rubbed bronze handle sets change the entire feel of the door.
We carry a range of styles from traditional raised-panel to modern flush designs, so there is a door that fits whether your home is a Hill Country ranch, a mid-century modern, or a new build in a master-planned community.

Security Features for Austin Homes
Entry door security starts with the door itself and extends to the frame, hinges, and hardware. Here is what to look for:
Solid-core construction resists forced entry far better than hollow-core doors. Steel and fiberglass doors with foam or wood-block cores are the strongest residential options available.
Reinforced strike plates with 3-inch screws that anchor into the wall studs — not just the door frame trim — prevent kick-ins. This is the single most impactful security upgrade and one we include with every installation.
Multi-point locking systems engage deadbolts at the top, middle, and bottom of the door simultaneously, distributing force across the full height of the frame.
Impact-resistant glass in doors with decorative inserts prevents break-and-reach entry without sacrificing the look of the door.
Smart lock compatibility — we prep every door for standard smart lock dimensions so you can install keyless entry, video doorbells, and remote access systems with no modifications needed after installation.
Our Entry Door Installation Process
We keep the process simple and the communication clear. Here is how a typical entry door project works:
We visit your home, measure the existing door opening, discuss your preferences for material, style, glass, and hardware, and provide a written estimate.
Once you approve the estimate, we order your door. You choose the material, color or stain, glass style, and hardware finish. Production time is typically 5 to 7 weeks depending on the manufacturer and configuration.
Most entry doors are installed in a single day — usually 4 to 6 hours. We remove the old door, inspect and prep the rough opening, set the new frame, hang the door, install hardware, and weatherstrip and seal everything.
We walk you through the finished installation, demonstrate all hardware and locking mechanisms, and leave your entryway clean. Our 2-year workmanship warranty covers the installation, and all manufacturer warranties remain in full effect.
Design Your New Front Door
Your front door should look like it belongs on your house — not like it came off a shelf. We work with Pella, Marvin, and other trusted manufacturers who offer extensive customization: panel configurations, glass styles from clear to textured to stained, dozens of exterior colors, wood species and stain options, and hardware collections in every finish.
